Seeing your appearance transform for the better, sometimes immediately, is one of the best parts of undergoing many of our non-invasive procedures. From Botox and fillers to laser and chemical peels, our services are designed to offer satisfying and fairly quick results.
But it doesn’t end when you leave our office
For maximum results, you need to follow Dr. Tehrani’s post-procedure skin care instructions, which can vary based on what you’ve had done. There are some core care tips, however, that you should follow no matter which procedure or procedures we perform for you:
1.) Be protective
Laser resurfacing and chemical peels, for example, are used to treat the upper and even deeper layers of your skin. It can take six week to two months for this “interrupted” layer to regenerate, creating fresh new rejuvenated skin. During this time period, your skin is very sensitive and prone to being burned and damaged by the sun. Without proper sun protection, you could easily end up with blotches and hyperpigmentation, even creating more damage than what you had originally.
So limit your exposure to the sun as completely as possible:
- Wear sunblock SPF 30 or higher, all day, every day
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat
- Avoid the harshest sun, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
2.) Be gentle
Many skin care products can increase skin sensitivity and should be discontinued before you have a cosmetic procedure, especially a chemical or laser peel. And most of your usual products will need to be reintroduced gradually after any treatment. The length of time you should avoid using certain products depends on your skin and the type or procedure you’ve had.
So as a general rule, for three days to two weeks after a peel, avoid and/or gradually start using:
- Retinoids
- Hydroxy Acids
The doctor will review the products you use and advise you on how to reincorporate them into your skincare routine.
3.) Be soothing
Your doctor can also guide you toward certain products and ingredients that can help calm and nurture your skin post-procedure – or any time. Call for your appointment today: (760) 240-2444.
